Florida Gators-Can they survive without Tim Tebow?
49Tebow-less Gators
I understand that one player doesn't make a team, but the Florida Gators are not only looking at the loss of Tim Tebow, but in total six All-Americans, and nine starters that were selected in this years NFL draft. They lost their best linebacker, best cornerback, and best defensive end. I know the Gators consistently under Urban Meyer always have a stellar recruiting class, but these youngsters are going to have to play out of their minds to keep pace with the National Championship Gator teams of the past. Up and coming quarterback John Brantley is no joke. He has an amazing arm and excellent poise in the pocket, but I don't see him able to run Meyers' style of offense as efficiently as Tim Tebow did. I do beleive however that John Brantley can develop into a better passer than Tebow. He has all the tools and an excellent coaching staff to guide him. Not to mention, a lot of receiving talent as well. Here is a recent quote from Urban Meyer on John Brantley and the offense:
"We have a lot of talent," Meyer said. "I can't list you the top six or seven play-makers in order. I know we have them. Instead of all the focus being on John, it's certainly not our focus, we're very well aware what he can do. It's the personnel around him…it's not been identified yet. So it's going to be a big job for us in training camp."
He sounds pretty confident or maybe he just wants his players to believe.
Another major loss is defensive coodinator Charlie Strong to Louisville. The Gators are going to have to adjust quickly to a new coordinator and maybe the silver lining is that they are young and undeveloped. This could make them easier to mold.
Tebow
Look for the Gators to utilize their young backup quarterbacks, true freshman Trey Burton and redshirt freshman Jordan Reed. Both like to run, and are bruisers. Here is a quote from starting center Mike Pouncey:
"We're going to pretty much be the same offense," center Mike Pouncey said. "We're not going to run our quarterback as much. He's not as big as Superman was. But we're looking for great things out of our offense. We have a lot of great skill players that are starting to emerge, especially Andre."
The Gators aren't acting like they are afraid or concerned about their offseason losses. We will see how it all translates out on the football field.
